Removal of AIB and cement gable ends to occupied manufacturing factory

We have recently completed Asbestos removal works to an occupied manufacturing factory. The works carried out involved the removal of two gable end walls which were fabricated from AIB wall panels (internal) and cement sheets (external). The work required completing in a five week period and had to be undertaken in a manner that would allow the daily running operations of the factory to continue. A purpose built three tier scaffold was erected to both the internal and external side of the gable ends to enable enclosures to be formed. Monoflex weather proof sheeting was applied to the external areas of scaffolding to protect against the outdoor elements. Approximately 600sqm of AIB and cement sheets were removed using controlled wetting techniques. The whole project was delivered on schedule and to budget with no disruption to the client’s manufacturing operations, another job well done, a credit to all those involved with the project.

Core move into new business premises

Core Environmental Services OfficeAt the beginning of February we finally moved into our new business premises located in Nechells. The premises incorporate an office, storage area and parking for vehicles and decontamination units. We have installed a purpose built racking system to house all company plant and materials when not in use. We have already had an informal meeting with you all to induct you on the procedure for removing/storing plant and materials and their locations. We would ask that you respect the investment by the company and keep the stores clean and tidy at all times thank you.

Health and Safety

Company Health and Safety Policy

We have just revised the company health and safety policy and are in the process of revising our standard procedures along with other company documentation.

We will induct you on these documents and update your operative handbooks once our licence renewal has been carried out.

Site Inspection and RPE Daily Check Forms

Following a trial run on our revised site inspection forms we have found them to be a lot more user friendly, however after a valid HSE inspectors opinion we will be changing the sequencing of the inspection forms putting all key stage checks at the front of the booklet and all daily checks at the rear.

We have also made a small amendment to the RPE daily check form which will enable you to initial daily and sign off weekly

Transporting Vacuums

We are currently looking at trying to find a suitable/better alternative to replace the requirement of double bagging vacuums whilst in transit.

We already have a segregated sealed area in company vans for transporting items which have been in enclosures (i.e. vacuums, npu’s, injection equipment etc.). We are thinking of something like large rigid plastic containers/drums with sealed lids, any suggestions or other ideas would be appreciated.

Cleanliness of Masks

After a recent unannounced random visual mask inspection by management we would remind you that your RPE “MUST” be cleaned to the required company standards at all times. The RPE is provided for your protection and “MUST” be maintained to the highest standard.

Plant and Equipment

In the last quarter we have purchased the following equipment:

  • Racking system for the stores
  • New Peugeot Partner van
  • Decontamination unit
  • 3000cfm negative pressure unit
  • New corporate clothing

Should there be any other additional plant and equipment we require to improve our work activities on site please advise any member of the management team.

Leigh and Ken have both completed annual asbestos management training and health and safety for senior managers and directors. Hans Anderson has completed operative annual fresher training. James will be carrying out an IOSH health and safety management course later in the month.

Company Goals for Next Quarter

  • To have all company documentation reviewed
  • To have our website up and running
  • To increase our client portfolio
  • To have employee identification cards
  • To be a CHAS and Construction line registered company
  • To be a member of either ARAC or ACAD
